GoodCinema Inspirations: I AM
StartJan 15
EndJan 15
Doors: 5:30PM | Show: 6:00PM$15 Advance Tickets | $20 At the Door (if available) PANEL:Bill Byrnes - GoodCinemaSarah Jackson - Casa de PazDanny Mazur - Soul StoriesCarlyn Shaw - Strangers to FriendsRett Kearbey - Gaia GoodCinema is starting the new year with an uplifting film, I AM, which explores human connectivity and how we make the world a better place. I AM is an engaging documentary that poses the provocative questions: what’s wrong with our world, and what can we do to make it better? Recovering from a near-fatal cycling accident, filmmaker Tom Shadyac emerged with a new sense of purpose. Previously living a life of excess and greed, he was determined to share the basis for his awakening and investigate how he as an individual, and we as a human race, could improve how we live and act in the world. The focus of this film, human connection, is central to GoodCinema's mission and will set the foundation for future events as we discuss common themes to drive our actions forward: love, empathy, and cooperation. Since society is simply a reflection of our values and actions, real change must come from within. This event will leave you inspired to be the change you wish to see in the world.
Cécile B. Evans - Lecture: Feeling For You
StartJan 15
EndJan 15
Doors Open at 6 p.m. ABOUT THE LECTURE The current ubiquity of technology in our daily lives increasingly reveals that virtual is real. Starting from the relationship between humans and new technologies, Cécile B. Evans' work reflects on the value of emotions in contemporary society by exploring forms of human subjectivity and the systems that carry them, as well as the limits of both. Lecture: Feeling For You is an ongoing, frequently updated lecture that reverse engineers the artist's practice through a series of personal anecdotes, research, images, audience reactions, and video clips. Meandering through the last few years of Evans' work, the talk follows a similar 'hyperlinked' logic used in recent projects like Hyperlinks or It Didn't Happen or AGNES. Touching on the rise of digital technology, the disorienting feedback loops it creates within society, and the historical relationship between humans and machines, Evans questions the last few years of her own work, including projects such as Sprung A Leak, What the Heart Wants, and Amos' World.     ABOUT THE ARTIST London-based Belgian-American artist Cécile B. Evans explores the influence of new technologies on human feelings and behavior through sculpture, video and video installations, internet platforms, and performances. Selected exhibitions of her work include Castello di Rivoli Turin, Museum Leuven, Tate Liverpool, and the Berlin Biennale. Public collections include The Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Rubell Family Collection in Miami, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. Learn more about Evans at cecilebevans.com
